<image:title>Taos County Firewise Network - The Taos County Firewise Network is made up of nationally recognized Firewise communities that have taken steps to reduce the risk of wildfire in their neighborhoods. These volunteer boards host annual wildfire awareness events, organize community cleanup and chipper days, provide education and outreach to homeowners about the benefits of creating defensible space, and apply for grants and other funding to support these efforts.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Network encourages peer-to-peer learning among Firewise boards in order to share information, encourage best practices, and amplify the benefits of the Firewise program across Taos County.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Wildfire Plaza - It all starts with a plan.</image:title>
<image:caption>In 2009, residents, agencies and organizations in Taos County came together to form a Core Team and draft the first-ever Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for our area. In 2022, the Core Team updated that plan to emphasize the connections between fire, people and water, and propose ways to help make our forests more robust, recognize traditional uses and foster the development of a restoration-based economy. The Taos County 2022 CWPP document is the basis for the various projects and initiatives that exist as part the Taos County Wildfire Plaza. The plan not only defines the risk that wildfire poses to towns and villages across the county, but it recommends specific actions that officials and residents can take together to mitigate those risks. Check out the “Initiatives” tab to see the various ways this overarching plan is being put into action.</image:caption>
